Vital Information for Vaplanning Subscribers:

On two separate occasions, vaplanning was deluged with hundreds of e-mail messages from the wayward e-mail server of a subscriber. Although that subscriber has been banned from the list, you should know what to do in case of another debilitating on-slaught of e-mail.

  • Unsubscribe from the mailing list. Send a message to [email protected]. Leave the subject line blank, or type "unsubscribe" (without the quotation marks). In the body of the message, type "unsubscribe vaplanning" (without the quotation marks). This strategy will save you the aggravation of a clogged e-mailbox until the deluge is over.
  • Contact your e-mail administrator. He or she may be able to block messages from a particular sender.

What precautions have been taken to ensure that a flood of unwanted e-mail will not clog vaplanning again? No solution is perfect, but a number of steps have been taken to substantially decrease the possiblity of a repeat.

  • Vaplanning has migrated to a new server. Up until the end of December, 1997, vaplanning resided on a server at Crosslink. However, their support was non-existent during the deluge, refusing either to take the list offline or change the settings to block the flow of messages. Because of the poor service, vaplanning has migrated to Listbox, as noted above.
  • Vaplanning now has a "closed" subscription policy. New subscribers will be approved individually by the administrator, allowing the administrator the chance to "check out" the address before approving.
  • Additional administrators have been appointed. Up to now, only one administrator has been assigned to "watch" the vaplanning list to make sure that things go smoothly. Three additional people are now authorized to remove subscribers or change the list setup to temporarily require approval for all messages that go back out to the list, in the event that the first administrator is offline when an emergency occurs. The three additional volunteers are Jeryl Rose Phillips [email protected];Paul Holt: [email protected]; Edwin Brooks: [email protected]
  • In case of problems with vaplanning, contact Lee Householder: [email protected] or [email protected]
